| fix/acme-contact-and-challenge | Fix ACME contact email wiring and remove unused challenge config | completed | moderate | high | component | implementation |
|
Description
Fix two related ACME bugs that prevent Let's Encrypt certificate provisioning from working:
-
C2: The
acme_contactfield is defined in the architecture (TlsConfig.acme_contactin config.md) but missing from theTlsConfigstruct instatic_config.rs. The ACME setup inacceptor.rsalways passescontact: vec![], which will cause production Let's Encrypt registration to fail with a 400-level error. -
C1: When
TlsMode::Acmeis matched inmain.rs, thechallenge_configandresolverfields are destructured with_(discarded). The separatechallenge_configis unnecessary — therustls-acmecrate'sResolvesServerCertAcmeresolver handles TLS-ALPN-01 challenges automatically on the main listener whenacme-tls/1is included in the ALPN list (whichbuild_acme_server_configalready does at line 28). The separatechallenge_configandbuild_acme_challenge_configfunction should be removed.
Changes Required
src/config/static_config.rs:
- Add
acme_contact: Stringfield toTlsConfigstruct (with#[serde(default)]) - Update TOML deserialization tests to include
acme_contact
src/config/validation.rs:
- Add validation rule 19: In ACME mode,
tls.acme_contactmust be a non-empty string starting withmailto: - Add
ValidationError::AcmeContactInvalidvariant
src/tls/acceptor.rs:
- Pass
tls_config.acme_contacttoAcmeTlsConfig.contactinstead ofvec![] - Remove
build_acme_challenge_configfunction (dead code after C1 fix) - Remove
challenge_configfield fromTlsMode::Acmevariant - Update
setup_tlsto only returndefault_configandresolver(nochallenge_config)
src/main.rs:
- Update
TlsMode::Acmedestructuring to removechallenge_config: _ - Remove any references to the discarded fields
src/tls/acme.rs:
- Ensure
AcmeTlsConfig.contactis used properly (it already hascontact: Vec<String>field andself.contact.iter().map(|c| c.as_str())insetup()— the struct is fine, it just needs to receive the actual contact from config)
Tests:
- Update
static_config.rstests for newacme_contactfield - Update
validation.rstests for new ACME contact validation - Update
acceptor.rstests for removedchallenge_config - Verify ACME setup still creates resolver correctly
Acceptance Criteria
acme_contactfield exists onTlsConfigand deserializes from TOML- Validation rejects ACME mode without
acme_contact(or with non-mailto:value) AcmeTlsConfig.contactreceives the configuredacme_contactvalue (not empty vec)build_acme_challenge_configfunction is removedTlsMode::Acmevariant no longer haschallenge_configfieldmain.rsno longer discards ACME resolver or challenge config- ACME TLS-ALPN-01 challenge handling still works via main listener's ALPN protocol list
- All existing tests pass
cargo clippypasses with no warnings
